Choices, Consequences & the Healing Process

I am sure that there are not many of us – maybe none of us – who can say we have never been unwell or have injured ourselves during the course of our life and as a result have had to make our way through the necessary healing process. I sure can’t say that, in fact looking back over the seven decades of my life, I seem to have had a life full of physical ups and downs and their subsequent healing processes and could consider myself an expert, but that is one area of expertise I could certainly do without laying claim to. It took until my early 60’s to begin to understand more about why I became unwell or why I injured myself, and one thing is very clear, there is always a reason. I have come to understand that everything comes down to each choice I have made and in some cases the sum total of all these choices that led to the consequences. The Healing Power of Touch – At any Age

I got to pondering on the healing power of touch recently as the result of a conversation with a woman in her late 80’s. She was sharing with me about how she felt while being in lockdown and when I asked her what she missed the most, she replied ‘being touched’. I could really relate to what she had shared, and I am sure that we were not the only ones who missed this most natural of human interactions during the time we were asked to stay in our own ‘bubbles’ of protection against the rapidly spreading virus known as Covid-19. Falling in Love with my Ageing Feet.

So why would I write about a blog about my feet you may ask? I have asked myself that question a few times since the idea dropped into my ‘Ideas for blogs’ folder a few weeks ago. After a moment of consideration, I replied to myself – why not? – after all, I get the feeling that for so long I have taken my feet for granted; that there have not been many times when I have taken into consideration the massive job that they do to support me in my everyday life. In fact, with every footstep there they are, right with me as I move.  Left, right, left right………..you get the picture? Continue reading “Falling in Love with my Ageing Feet.”

So – Where to from Here?

There have been many times in my life where I have asked the question – ‘Where to from here’ and maybe you have asked it too. And looking back it is clear that the times this question has been asked, have been those that are often called watershed moments, ones that come after our life changes in some shape or form. A time when we may stop – or be stopped – and realise that there is a choice to be made as to which way we go next; left, right or straight ahead, or maybe even back to where we have just come from. I’m Ready, I’m Willing – but am I really Able?

‘Ready, willing and able’ is a saying that I have heard many times over the years and you probably have too. And I know that on occasions, I have used it as well. But as I am growing older, I am starting to realise that sometimes I am having to rewrite the ‘able’ bit, as there are days when my able-ness is not equal to my readiness and my willingness. And that can feel rather frustrating to say the least.

This state of bodily affairs has snuck up on me rather quietly and a little too quickly it feels. The ‘young woman’ who I still feel I am inside, is now having to come to understand, often the hard way, that she has to stop and listen to her ageing body if she wants her life to flow smoothly, without getting tired and without setting off discomfort or even pain in her body. A big lesson and one, that in the process of talking to others, I am coming to understand that many find challenging to learn. Continue reading “I’m Ready, I’m Willing – but am I really Able?”
